STORAGE

•Storage holds data, instructions, and information for future use

•A storage medium / media is the physical material on which a computer keeps data, instructions,

and information

Capacity Storage

•Kilobytes = 1,024 bytes,

•Megabytes = 1,024 Kilobytes

•Gigabytes = 1,024 Megabytes

•Terabytes = 1,024 Gigabytes

TYPES OF STORAGE

Magnetic Storage :Use different patterns of magnetization on an magnetically coated surface                        to store information

                 ex: Hard Disk - contains one or more inflexible, circular platters that use magnetic                                    particles to store data.

                                          i.e : external hard disk,removable hard disk

                       Floppy Disk

Optical Discs : Stores information in deformities on surface of a circular disc and reads this                     information by illuminate this surface with a laser diode and observe the                           reflection.

                       Types:a)Compact Disc (CD)

                                 b)Digital Video Disc (DVD)

                                 c)Blu-ray (BD)

Flash Memory Storage :Type of solid state media and contain no moving parts.

                                       ex:-->Solid state drives(SSDs)

                                                Advantages :-faster access time,faster transfer rates

                                         ex:-->Memory Card -removable flash memory device
